You can't turn on a television without hearing her melodies so I thought I'd show one of my favorite Nina Simone songs.
I saw this performance on the Montreal Jazz Festival on the Ovation channel, (I'll link to both later).
Nina Simone reminds me of what my grandmother may have been like. I don't have many memories of her, but I imagine her to be the Nina Simone, I'm-not-taking-any-of-your-excuses-or-your-bullcrap, type. Other than that, Nina Simone has always frightened me to some degree.

Late October

I posted this a year ago, the previous late October, and I always mean to post it earlier in the late stage of October, like maybe the 16th or so, but it's been late both times. Whatever.
Never too late to spread the music.

Fairy Tales

I used to make fun of my sister for liking a song so depressing. It's didn't think it was a happy song at all.
Just take these lyrics,

See what I mean?
But after listen after listen, I grew to love the song.
It wasn't depressing, it was real. Life isn't a fairy tale and when 'reality steps into view,' you can't ignore it, you just accept that fairy tales aren't reality.

Alcohol!

I can imagine to the untrained native English speaking eye, lil' kids singing about Alcohol may seem a lil', uh, wrong.
Well it's harmless, really, the only alcohol they're hip with is "só para desinfetar," only for disinfecting purposes.

Another one of those songs that motivates me to learn Portuguese to sing properly. Here's to getting you started,
