Tina Turner has been my idol since I was a kid.
One, because my nickname was Tina.
Two, because I loved the song, 'What's Love Got To Do With It.'
Although, until high school, I never really understood the magnitude of what Tina Turner accomplished for rock music.
The musical 'Tommy' renewed my interest in Tina, and I grew to love this song...and her performance in the film.
Eat your heart out, Beyonce.

A lil while ago, I discovered a mixtape called Southerngold. A mix of rap artists over Santogold beats (she'll always be Santogold in my heart, plus these tags are just too complicated to undo). I've mentioned before how it's getting to be a bit annoying that Santogold isn't featured in person, she's just rapped over.
But I'll make an exception for this piece.
It's amazing to see how this,
became something so unrecognizable that I refuse to link it until it becomes something ....I like in the least bit.
This is the plus to having a personal blog like this, I can allow myself to use my own integrity and dopeness meter, and that Boom, Boom, Pow ish I'm not feeling.
The song above, is classic. It's dope, it's amazing.
I don't get any of that feeling when it comes their new stuff. I get this emptied, souless party music to which I can't relate.
Oh well. This nostalgia just brought me back a bit, made me a bit angry. I'll choose to live in the past.

I still vividly remember this song from my childhood, and I'm not exactly sure why or how.
I do believe the relationship between the two singers was what fueled the fame of this song, but still, I don't know how I remember it so vividly. I remember a few of the lyrics too, which blows my mind because even today, I barely understand what I'm singing.
Without further ado,
Nooo me aaaamess...
I'll have more posts to come, but my internet...you know...
Enjoy!

After spending a few weeks in Baltimore, the Bmore sound has been drilled into my head every day of the week. Occasionally with some break ins with Go-Go, but that's another post.
I love Rye Rye, and this vid.
Enjoy!

As a young adult, I have so many misconceptions about love...
Well, I'm not exactly sure if they're misconceptions, only time will tell, you know?
But songs like this help frame the helplessness that some people feel when they're in some serious love....or lust.
I think this song falls towards the latter,
A bit of info, around the time that I was just leaving my neo-soul obsession and heading into the direction of artists like Bloc Party and M.I.A., I was the biggest J*Davey fiend, with nothing to show for it. I visited their original website practically every day for about a year, and it still mystifies me that they haven't been able to receive the recognition and major label support they deserve. When I got my own computer (yeah, THIS long ago) I lost a lot of the music I had of theirs (I know I have a collection of their tracks I found all over the internet on a cd somewhere) but I never can get very far without hearing one of their tracks again.
Enjoy!

Today, during Orientation, our mediator mentioned 'a natural high.' Music wasn't mentioned, and I thought about what it meant to me.
Sometimes, in a perfect song, the music is so dope, it puts me in a trance. This is one of those songs.
I don't remember exactly what made me listen to this song. I believe it was the mention of Spymob doing backing vocals, and since I love John Otsby's voice, I had to give a shot.
I'm so glad I did.
Today, after being stuffed mentally, drained physically and just generally peeved, I stumbed across this song during a music binge.
I felt good afterwards.

The last song I'm going to spotlight today was initially a beat created by the late Jay Dee for his album 'Donuts.' In the wake of his death, the Roots released their album 'Game Theory,' that included a dedication to the producer using said beat. This song was meant for Jay Dee, but I think it is also fitting for this occasion.

Otherwise known as the 'Breakadawn.'
Rhymefest, also known as Kanye's protege, American Rap Advocate, or 'That Guy in that 'Brand New' video with Kanye, came out with a mixtape dedicated to Michael Jackson with Mark Ronson last year, entitled, 'Man in the Mirror.'
Who knew how pertinent it was?
Here's my favorite gem from it.
Breakadawn, by Rhymefest featuring
In case you didn't notice yesterday's post, this song samples Michael Jackson's, 'I Can't Help It.'
The last is yet to come.
Enjoy!

While researching today's or tomorrow's MJ sample, I came across an oldie but goodie from my childhood. I'm young, so when I was given Michael Jackson's 'Invincible' as a birthday gift, I went berserk with it. One of the songs I remember the most was his 'Break of Dawn.'
And it sorta reminded me of U.N.I.'s remix to their song, Beautiful Day.
Fast-forward a bit 'til you hear it.
But um, yeah.
Enjoy!
RIP Michael Jackson
