Otherwise known as the 'Breakadawn.'
Rhymefest, also known as Kanye's protege, American Rap Advocate, or 'That Guy in that 'Brand New' video with Kanye, came out with a mixtape dedicated to Michael Jackson with Mark Ronson last year, entitled, 'Man in the Mirror.'
Who knew how pertinent it was?
Here's my favorite gem from it.
Breakadawn, by Rhymefest featuring
In case you didn't notice yesterday's post, this song samples Michael Jackson's, 'I Can't Help It.'
The last is yet to come.
Enjoy!
RIP Michael Jackson

While researching today's or tomorrow's MJ sample, I came across an oldie but goodie from my childhood. I'm young, so when I was given Michael Jackson's 'Invincible' as a birthday gift, I went berserk with it. One of the songs I remember the most was his 'Break of Dawn.'
And it sorta reminded me of U.N.I.'s remix to their song, Beautiful Day.
Fast-forward a bit 'til you hear it.
But um, yeah.
Enjoy!
RIP Michael Jackson

One of my favorite hip hop jams, because it has such a pretty melody,
De La Soul's 'Breakadawn' samples
Michael Jackson's 'I Can't Help It'.
Ryan Leslie's 'Addiction' pays homage to it.
Enjoy! Especially the last one...(*sigh*)
RIP Michael Jackson

I didn't notice this one, I had to look it up, it threw me for a loop. (Pun acknowledged)
Just another tidbit of genius from the Neptunes.
Old Dirty Bastard's 'Got Your Money' featuring Kelis,
samples Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' (the opening, pack your producer's mind to hear the drum loop)
Enjoy!
RIP Michael Jackson...

I'm running out of things to say about these songs. It's getting harder and harder each time!
uMmmMummmm. these songs are both pretty good.
Kudos to Kanye for using a loop not instantly recognizable, but still pretty iconic.
The Good Life, featuring T-Pain...
samples P.Y.T. by Michael Jackson.
Enjoy!
RIP, Michael Jackson

This sample was so cleverly hidden by one of da mastahssss, Jay Dee, when it clicked in my head I had to shout it out loud, hey, Q Tip's 'Move' ...
samples 'Dancing Machine' by the Jackson 5.
Enjoy.
RIP Michael Jackson

When I heard that we lost Michael Jackson, I immediately tried to measure exactly how much we've lost. His influence is unfathomable, and I had no idea how to approach a dedication of some sort. I was left a tad clueless. So I decided, since this blog is mostly hip hop, I'd do a post every day out of this week with a video or song that sampled some of Michael's or the Jackson 5's work.
I figured I'd start today, Saturday, since I'd be away from my computer once again.
Here''s Nas, with 'It Ain't Hard to Tell.'
The sample is from one of my favorite songs by Michael Jackson, 'Human Nature.'
RIP, Michael Jackson

I'm a person who at once, believes in excuses, and also thinks that excuses are nonexistent.
The reason I haven't posted lately is because I've been away from home, and the documents I were gonna upload and publish were at home, at which I could not connect to the internet.
Part of me thinks this is a valid excuse.
The other half of me says, 'If I really loved all three of my fans, I would have redone all of the work!'
But I'm lazy.
So I'll go with the first excuse.
Said computer still cannot connect online, so I'm on a laptop, doing my best.
I owe you guys two quotes of the week, and I've been hearing a bunch, with nowhere to write them down.
So I'll share a lil' diddy that was my wake-up song for school when I was twelve.
Please do enjoy!

.Other than the fact that Rappers find Santigold more interesting when they rap over her work or sample it.
A simple collaboration with her present in the room recording at the same time, would be nice.
Whenever I hear a Santigold song, I kind of rejoice, and sing out loud, proclaiming how great she is and how much 'I love this song!'
Just trying to spread the word y'know? So when I heard her song on the radio + Drake, this lil' upstart from Toronto (not to mention that he starred in some sorta teen soap opera called Degrassi something or other that I used to watch on a daily basis until that girl got killed by falling on a rock and I said, 'Ok, this is too much for even me to suspend my disbelief' But I digress...)
Where was I? Oh, when I heard her beats and melody and 'la la la' under the lyrics of Drake, I....sat and listened. I didn't wanna give Drake a chance, I wanna be skeptical and cynical, but I stayed 'cause...his flow was some sorta tight.
Drake won. (The song, and a lil' spot in my rotation.)
When I got out of bed this morning, this melody was stuck in my head somehow. I know how my brain works, I probably heard one note of it somewhere, and my brain just concluded the rest of it saying that this song, is the one I needed to hear, badly, right about now.
So I obeyed my brain, and looked it up and played it.
I think you guys should hear it too.
Not that I needed encouragement about it, but it's nice to 'know there's others, that's in the sea.'
